Every real estate journey starts somewhere. Mine began in a tiny back house in Coronado, where my husband and I were trying to navigate military life, save money, and figure out how to build something of our own. He was active duty Navy, working nonstop. I was building my footing in San Diego real estate. We loved Coronado, but living in a converted back house eventually pushed us into a crossroads. Stay where we were, or take a chance and buy a home.
That question changed everything.
Instead of waiting for the “perfect” time, we bought a home in Imperial Beach using the VA loan. It needed upgrades, but we saw potential. We put in work, fixed it up, and watched the property gain value almost immediately. That one decision introduced us to what homeownership could actually do for a military family.
